Bryce Canyon

We hit Bryce Canyon in the middle of March 2001, when the weather was warming up just enough to start melting the snow.  The result was a lot of orange mud, everywhere.  We hiked down into the Canyon over trails that were completely covered with snow, and in parts it was pretty treacherous--the mud and snow sliding whole sections of trail away.  One wrong move and we'd be washed down into the canyon on a wave of pink mud and snow.  So we didn't hike as much as we wanted, but we got some good photos.

Bryce was stunning simply because of the colors - from up top it's brilliant orange,  and when you're down in the shadows suddenly you're knee deep in dark pink clay.

Is this a trail???  What planet are we on anyway?
