Florence

The hardest thing about posting these photos was trying to decide which ones to leave out!  We have hundreds from Italy.  Here are just a few of the highlights of Florence.

We waited in line for over an hour, in the pouring rain, to get in to the Galleria Dell'Accademia to see the Michelangelo's David.  This is a picture of a replica created to stand in place of the original, in the Piazza della Signoria, when the original was moved indoors.

This is taken across the river from the Uffizi Gallery.  Below is another picture from within the colonnade outside the Uffizi.  That's about as close as we got to visiting the museum!  This was about three months into our trip, we were at maximum art appreciation capacity, plus there was a certain gelato stand we were destined to find.

This is in the Giardino di Boboli, behind the Palazzo Pitti.

Here are some images of the Duomo, taken from the top of the tower.

We were navigating our way from one piazza to the next, and suddenly we noticed a small solitary shop, with patrons lined up out the door and around the corner, and a small crowd gathered outside spooning gelato into their smiling faces.  We figured they must be onto something and gave it a taste.  It turns out this one shop is purported to have the best gelato in, well, I think the universe.  We agree.  Chris and I have a dream to one day fly a gelato specialist over from Italy and open a shop somewhere in the US.  Why can't they make good gelato here!!!???  We have some theories on why the gelato here never measures up--food laws, like restrictions on raw egg use?  Perhaps.   If you know why we can't get good gelato, please let me know.
